What I’m Plotting Next ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ’•

Yes – I’m plotting my next book!

Hey there!
Happy Friday! I’m writing to you from my plotting cave, surrounded by index cards, sticky notes, and approximately three cups of tea and fifty empty bags of baked apple chips.

There’s something magical (and slightly maddening) about this stage. Right now, my characters could go anywhere, do anything, fall for anyone. I’m living in that sweet spot of infinite possibility and endless fun.

Speaking of stories…

If you’re craving something cozy to listen to while you fold laundry or take your daily walk, I’m currently podcasting the short story prequel! It’s the perfect bite-sized mystery to whet your appetite, and I’d love to know what you think. The latest episode is on my website, or find it on most podcast players at Comfort Crime or at ComfortCrime.com.

What I’ve Been Reading (With Thoughts)

I recently finished The Word Is Murder by Anthony Horowitz, and… it didn’t quite land for me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s well-written and has a great premise. A woman plans her own funeral and six hours later is murdered. Genius hook. But here’s the thing: I found myself intellectually engaged but emotionally unsatisfied. The ending left me cold (just like his Magpie Murders did), and the villain felt a bit too dark and underdeveloped for my taste.

So maybe he’s just not my style.

But, it made me think about what we really want from our mysteries. For me, if I had to choose between intellectually stimulating and emotionally satisfying, I’ll take the emotial payout any day of the week and twice on Tuesdays. But I’d rather have BOTH! Give me the clever twists AND the characters I care about. The puzzle AND the heart.

Have any of you read it? Did I miss something?ย

What I’ve Been Watching

On a happier note, I finally watched The Marlow Murder Club miniseries!

My husband found it a bit slow (he hasn’t read the book), but I enjoyed it! There’s something about a well-done cozy mystery adaptation that just hits the spot, you know? And I’ve got books two and three on hold at the library. So fingers crossed they hold up.ย

What About You?

I’d love to hear: Are you team “intellectual puzzle” or team “emotional satisfaction”? Or are you greedy like me and want both? Hit reply and let me know!

Until next time, keep your tea hot and your suspects many,

xoxo – Lindsay

P.S. – What are you reading right now? I’m always looking for my next great read!
